UNH Tops Fall Commissioner's Cup Standings

BOSTON - After winning a pair of America East fall championships, New Hampshire sits atop the 2019-20 Stuart P. Haskell, Jr., Commissioner’s Cup standings following the fall season. UNH leads UAlbany by 12 points in the first rendition of the standings, which were announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

The Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic program in America East as determined by a scoring system which rewards a school for success both during the regular season and championship competition in the conference's 18 sports.

Need to Know
  • Six of America East’s nine member institutions won a championship or regular-season title or had a runner-up finish this fall.
  • UNH is atop the standings following the fall season for the sixth time in the last 11 seasons. 
  • The Wildcats swept the regular season and tournament titles in men's soccer and won the women's cross country crown.
  • UNH went on to win an NCAA men's soccer first round game for the second time in the last three years.
  • UAlbany, which is in second place, swept the volleyball titles and was co-regular-season champion in women's soccer..
  • Hartford was the biggest mover from the 2018-19 fall standings, moving up three spots to #3 after runner up finishes in men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
  • Stony Brook, the 2018-19 Commissioner's Cup winner, won the men's cross country title and swept the women's soccer crowns. The Seawolves sit in fourth place, two points behind Hartford. 
The scoring system for the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup is as follows: In sports where regular-season round robin competition is conducted, the first-place institution in the final standings receives four points times the total number of teams involved in conference play. The second-place institution receives four less points; third place receives eight less points, and so on. Additionally, the America East (tournament) champion receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place receives four less points and so on down to the last-place institution which receives two points. 

In sports where regular-season round robin competition is not conducted (cross country, track & field, swimming & diving), the first-place institution at the America East championship receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place gets four less points and so on down to the last place team which receives two points.
